Solemn Anniversary
You probably wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the date of Kim Il-Sung’s death is a national holiday in North Korea. He was the leader of the country from its founding in 1948 until his death on July 8th, 1994. Each July 8th is now a day of nationwide mandatory mourning.

First, talking loudly or even smiling on July 8th is forbidden. Add to that no gum chewing or boisterous behavior allowed near the statues of Kim during times of paying respect. People who violate these laws may be sent to labor camps…
